History and political sciences student William Wong has recently spent a productive summer interning at our Hong Kong office under the guidance of Robert John Tasker, Associate Director of Operations. In this article, William tells us more about his experience and what he has learnt.
I chose to intern at Within International in Hong Kong with the chief aim of discovering whether a career in marketing and branding was right for me. Part of this aim was to acquire skills that will allow me to progress into an exciting role after I graduate, and with this internship under my belt, I believe my chances of securing a post-university position have been greatly enhanced.

I have had the opportunity to carry out a number of essential tasks and responsibilities. I shadowed Robert in the office by understanding how critical his role is in growing the business across the region. I also gained knowledge in how businesses in the UK are navigating their operations through the pandemic, whilst I also engaged with iconic and recognisable brands in the USA.
I discovered that when carrying out communication functions and research, attention to detail is essential. For example, when translating critical copy for the agency’s new virtual platform, Enter Agora, I had found that many prospective clients across the region appreciated important details about why the platform is such a ground-breaking product.
Finally, my role also included communicating and distributing the right information across the agency and playing a part in ensuring the success of project delivery and account management.
I want to say thanks to everyone who supported me at Within International in Hong Kong, particularly to Robert. He guided me through challenging tasks such as research and client outreach. He offered me guidance and great advice on how to improve my output and he introduced me to work I had not previously done.
Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this internship to any university students who are interested in a career in strategic communications. It has been a fruitful experience and I look forward to seeing how my time at Within International will benefit me with my career going forward.
